    ‘Black Flower’ by Young-ha Kim, longlisted for the 2012 MAN Asian Prize, tells the little-known story of a boat-load of Koreans – soon to be effectively rendered stateless by Japanese annexation of their homeland – who set sail for a new life in Mexico at the turn of the 20th century.
